Ask the Universe for advice or help – is it true that we can ask the Divine Source for advice on how to deal with our daily problems? Would the Universe be bothered with our mundane drama? Are there any limits or conditions on what we can ask from the Universe?
Inspired by Pam Grout’s book, E-Squared, I conducted a 48-hour experiment during which I asked the Universe for advice. In this article, I share my experience and insights on what happens when you ask with the clear intention of receiving guidance.

Experiment #5: The Dear Abby Principle
In this experiment, Pam Grout invites her reader to dwell on the possibility that we are not here on our own. That is, she developed the hypothesis that we have access to infinite wisdom and Universal all the time. Although we see ourselves as human beings, separated from the Divine worlds, we can still connect with the non-physical realm and ask for anything we want or need.
The good part is that this applies to all areas of our lives. We can ask for advice on whether to accept a new job offer, where to go on vacation, whether to start a new business, etc. In other words, instead of making decisions on our own, we can ask for some guidance.
To prove that this is possible, the author created the Dear Abby experiment. The task is very simple: come up with a clear yes or no question. Write it down on the lab report, and give the Universe exactly 48 hours to give you a clear, undeniable answer.
Hint
Often, the signs from the Universe are subtle. That is, if you don’t pay attention or are not open-minded, you may even miss it. So, as always, be more observant than usual, and look for hints that make speak only to you.
Occasionally, we might find ourselves forcing the circumstances. In particular, if we are impatient to receive the sign, we might start arguing with ourselves that one or another is a sign. For example, if you consider the white feather as an undeniable sign, and suddenly see a purple feather, you might be tempted to believe that this is your sign. But, don’t be fooled. The Universe is always crystal clear, and would never makes you guess.
To avoid this pitfall, learn to be patient. Instead of questioning every unusual sight or event, trust that the answer will be loud and flashy. When you see it, you will know. Your heart will know. Your entire body will react to it.
My Yes-or-No Question
For the past few months, I’ve been working on creating and testing a self-help program. Since this is my first undertaking of such sort, I have my doubts. So, I decided to ask the Universe whether this program is supposed to reach a large audience. A clear yes or no question.
To avoid manipulating the outcome or forcing an answer, I decided not to ask for a specific sign (e.g., a coin, a feather, a number, etc.). Instead, I set my intention to be open-minded and let the Divine wisdom deliver its message in the best possible way.
The Results
The first day passed uneventfully. Based on my experience so far, I see this as a pattern. The first day goes by without any development. In other words, if I give the Universe 48 hours to do something, it takes uses most of them. I wonder what would happen if I give it 24 hours instead 😉
At some point in the afternoon of Day 2, I asked the question out loud. Less than a minute later, I received an email. The notification for the email (on my phone) read the following, “Success! Here you go, Desi!”
As you can guess, I start laughing. Only the Universe can give such a direct and precise answer.
The next morning, just a bit before the 48-hour deadline, I pulled an Oracle card from Sonia Choquette’s deck, Ask Your Guides. The card was Leadership. Part of the explanation stated, “… you’re emerging from the background and coming recognized for both your competence and wisdom.”
Well! That’s what I call having a conversation with the Universe.
