Moving Forward or Being Stuck – 5 Clear Signs

Recently, I have started Dr. Joe Dispenza’s 4-week guided mediations program. After one week of meditating, I figured out that I needed to spend more time than suggested. Even Dr. Joe explains that if a person needs more time, they should take it. It’s about moving forward and not about completing a checklist.

I started seeing immediate improvements in my life, however small these were. After building some confidence, I decided to speed up. That’s when funny things started happening. Despite my self-improvement work, I felt stressed about many things, including my job, family, etc.

What was going on? I was doing the mediations, the positive affirmations, and all the work. I started putting in more and more effort. Yet, I was feeling more and more stressed about anything and everything. I even decided to make myself feel happy… And yes, it didn’t work.

That’s when I noticed that I was often stuck in traffic. Things around me started getting stuck as well.

And then, it hit me. I was stuck! Despite the hard work I was doing, I wasn’t moving forward. The more effort I put in, the more stuck I got.

5 Signs that You Are Stuck

Moving Forward in Life
1. Everything around you is stuck

As our lovely Louise Hay often said, the world always mirrors back to us. So, take a few moments, observe, and reflect on your environment. Do you notice things moving forward freely, or do you see them stuck?

Look at the little things like the zipper of your jacket, the bagel in the toaster, the key in the lock…

If you see a trend, then it is clear that you are not moving forward. Rather, you are running on the spot.

Take a short break from your work. And, try to identify what you hope to achieve with your emotional, mental, and spiritual work and how far you are getting.

Perhaps you are concentrating on the “wrong” issue, which prevents you from moving forward. For example, if you are working on improving your relationships with your colleagues, you might be looking solely at their behavior. The real issue, however, could be your beliefs about work and work-related relationships. When items are getting stuck all around you, you might want to shift your focus from the obvious to a deeper level within you.

2. You are physically stuck

When you reflect on the past few days, do you notice that you are stuck in traffic regardless of when or where you drive? Do you realize that the more effort you put into avoiding this, the more unexpected things happen? That is, you put yourself over and over again into the grid.

Same with your shopping experience. At the most unusual time, you find yourself stuck in a lineup without the opportunity of easy escape or going around.

How about the meeting that took too much time for nothing? Or the phone call that you couldn’t end although you didn’t need to hear all about that.

These alone are a clear indicator that somehow you block your way of moving forward. It is time to stop and change your course of action.

Perhaps you are rushing through a process, trying to get to the result faster rather than effectively. If you are not ready to move on from one step to another, then everything around you will try to show and “force” you to slow down.

3. Your imagination doesn’t work anymore

If I ask you to describe your dream vacation right now, can you do so? Can you imagine where you would go and do right now, at this moment? Or how do you want to celebrate your upcoming birthday?

If you have difficulty imagining, it is clear that you are not moving forward.

The best way to create, attract and allow your beautiful future is to visualize it. If you cannot do so, however, it means that you are stuck in the past.

When this happens to me, I have noticed that the reason for my stuck imagination is my unwillingness to forgive myself or someone else. In such cases, I feel like stuck in a closet without windows or light. The anger or blame blocks my vision and makes it impossible to move forward.

Perhaps your spouse did something frustrating, and you are still stuck with the negative emotion. For as long as you hold on to this feeling, you will remain stuck unless you forgive them and yourself.

4. Your prayers and affirmations don’t work

So, you are doing the work day after day, and yet, nothing seems to be working right. Although it might appear hard to assess this situation, chances are that you are stuck with some old belief or attitude.

One way you could use positive affirmations is to check whether you have an old limiting belief that prevents you from moving forward. The process is simple. Just stick to a positive statement for a few days, and see if there is absolutely no change or if things get worse. If so, then you know there is something deeper to work on.

For example, you might affirm that you see the beauty of the world around you. But the world appears gloomy, messy, and unwelcoming. Chances are that you might not see yourself as beautiful because you have this old attitude stuck in your head that you are not good enough. This is what prevents the affirmations from working for you.

5. You don’t feel naturally happy, lovable, and light

Being happy, feeling loved, and light should not take effort. This normal state of being should come to you naturally and easily.

If you notice that you are working hard to be happy, you are not moving anywhere. Trying too hard and putting in too much effort is like trying to push a wall instead of going around it.

Instead of trying to move forward at all costs, take a moment to reflect on why you are stuck. Perhaps you are forcing yourself to appear happy in front of others instead of taking the time to appreciate yourself and your life.

When you notice a negative trend or pattern in your day-to-day activities and events, take it as a sign that you could adjust or change something in your life.
